Allied Deceptions Kept Germans Deceived.

A most encouraging feature of the Normandy landings, as far as the Allies are concerned, is that the Germans remain unconvinced that there will not be other landings on the north French coast, especially in the Pas-de-Calais. Allied deception measures are still working.

One of the most significant aspects has been the creation of a mythical army group apparently assembling in south-east England - Lt-Gen Patton's 1st US Army Group. This has its own dummy camps and equipment, fake radio nets and mock newspapers. Captured German spies who have been "turned" under the Double Cross system also add to the myth. Last night RAF bombers enhanced the deception by dropping the "Window" foil or chaff in such a way as to make the Germans believe that invasion fleets were heading for Boulogne and Le Havre.

The immediate effects of all this have been a delay of the move of the German armour to the Normandy coast and a refusal to reinforce with elements of the Fifteenth Army, which is north of the Seine.
